Austin was disappointed to see that the art display was mostly photographs. "What is art about that?", he asked. There were a few sculptures in the garden area, but the main exhibit area consisted of two different photography sections. One was by John Lawrence, he mostly takes photos of famous sculptures from museums in Rome, Italy, and Greece. His goal is to present the pieces in a different view. The students were sent on a scavenger hunt to locate various things from the paintings. Here are some pictures from the "hunt".
The other section was a display by local high schoolers called "Shutter Sense and Non-Sense". It was a contest with several themes. The displays here had lots of unusual pictures and, while Austin still did not get it, Matthew and I enjoyed it. Here are some photos from this display. Of course, we are taking pictures of pictures and our camera does not do them justice. Click to enlarge to get a better idea.
Then last week we went to one of our first (out of four) Art classes. The instructor was wonderful. She was not only very skilled in Art, but also in people. She very quickly learned (and remembered) the names of all 15 students, and was really able to point out the details of each child's piece.
Not only that, she made what I thought was a complicated project seem very easy. In fact, I plan to recreate the project at home.
Our friends, Bethany and Caleb, are also in the class. Bethany is very artistic and seemed to enjoy.
Great photos! Is that what sparked in interest in photography for Matthew?
